Unable to volunteer- please see link below to pay for your spectator ticket.
Below is a list of all activities followed by a summary of what to do and sign up links.
1. THE CHANNEL CHALLENGE
Swimmers who can make a 100m in 1 minute 30 second turn around time or faster are needed to see if we can make the crossing in the day!
We will leave 1 lane open for the full 8-hours to try and cover the distance of the Channel (33km).
Only one swimmer will be in the pool at a time, but there can be an unlimited number of changeovers (depending on sign ups).
2. SPONSORED SWIM
How far will you go for your club? We have space for swimmers to take on the 1, 2 or 3 hour challenge.
There will be up to 6 swimmers per lane of a similar pace.
We are also setting new 1, 2 and 3 hour challenge club records.Take on this challenge individually or as a team and see how far you can go.
We would like all entrants to reach out to their communities to sponsor them on a per meter/kilometre basis. It doesn't matter if you can raise £1 per kilometre or £10 it all helps!
See below how you can fundraise.
3. THE PLUNGE
This is a former Olympic diving competition with the simple aim of ‘who can dive the furthest’.
Swimmers will dive from the blocks and the only rule is that you cannot move after the dive (no kicking/pulling).
The distance will be recorded from the moment you lift your head to breathe and will be measured by how far your feet have gone (to eliminate some advantage of being taller).
Each round the swimmer who has travelled the least distance will be eliminated. There will be prizes for swimmers going the furthest in each age group.
We suggest a donation of £2 per dive so if you are not happy you can try again.
The Plunge will be cash payments on the day so please don't forget to put a couple of pounds in your swim bag!
4. TEAM PURSUIT
This team challenge is about strategy, tactics and teamwork.
Teams of four set off together and slipstream as best they can to conserve their energy until they take the lead.
This will be a 400m race in teams of 4, with all members of the same team starting at the same time in their lane. After the 1st 100m the swimmer at the front of each team must drop out, after 200m the swimmer at the front must drop out, it is then up to each team individually when the 3rd swimmer drops out leaving the last swimmer to race to the end.
Teams are free to change their order throughout the race and must use slipstreaming and tactics to get the fastest time. Teams will also have 10-mins at the start to discuss tactics and practice swimming as a group.
5. SKILLS CLINIC
Start your season with skills!
The coaching team will run these focused sessions where you can choose which stroke you work on and see demonstrations from national swimmers who will be on hand to share their top tips.
You will spend around an hour in the pool with time on land for theory and a stroke Q&A session for parents/carers (topics: training, racing, dealing with exams, dealing with setbacks, when swimmers achieved their first Regional / National etc.).
Meet The Performance Plus Swimmers to see which swimmers will demonstrate their skills.
This is an opportunity to get the best 1-to-1 coaching and best swimmers in action and will be popular. Spaces will be limited so sign up fast.
There will be a cost (£25) for this session which must be paid beforehand.
6. WATER POLO
Have a go at Water polo. Have you seen the amazing water polo matches at the Olympics and fancy a go?
We will have some water polo whizzes on hand to help introduce the basics and run a couple of friendly matches so you can see how you like it.
7. THE MADISON (Open water game)
Taking a trick from track cycling this is another fun team game.
Swimmers pair up to race 40 laps around two buoys at each end of the pool. Swimmers can switch who is racing in their pair at any point by touching their partner’s foot.
Every 5th lap points are awarded to the teams that touch the wall in the top 4 on that lap (5, 3, 2, 1 points) with the last lap being worth double points (10, 6, 4, 2 points).
If a team laps the field they will receive 20 points. The winning team is the one with the most points.
Swimmers will be swimming ‘open water’ style and will need to be able to pass each other, swim as a pack, spot turns, and spot their partner when they wish to change.
It will require strategy of how many laps at a time each swimmer does, when you decide to sprint, and if you decide to push and lap other swimmers.
8. RELAY CHALLENGE
Wrap up the day with some relay races! As well as some classics the coaches will mix things up with some surprise races and if we get the sign-ups, we will see a parent/carer & swimmer relay race.
